Before you type the name

Six ways to make sure the name comes out right

The name is the one word they will listen hardest for. A few seconds of care in how you write it pays off in the chorus.

  1. Siobhan (shi-VAWN)

    Spell out how it sounds

Type the name, then how it is said in parentheses. The hint guides the lyrics and the singer, and since you hear both versions before paying, a wrong vowel gets caught early.

  2. Bex

Use the name they answer to

If everyone calls her Bex, write Bex. Mention Rebecca in your story only if you want the full name too, say for a grand last line.

  3. Mia & Leo

    Two names, one chorus

Twins, a couple, two best friends: put both names in the name field and say who is who in the story, so each one gets a line of their own.

  4. Grandpa Joe

    Keep the title they love

Grandpa Joe, Coach Dee, Aunt Lu. Write it exactly the way the family says it out loud, because that is how it should be sung.

  5. Lucía

    Sing it in their language

Songs can be written and sung in English, Spanish, Portuguese or Italian. Pick the language that makes the name sound like home.

  6. Maya ×4

    Ask for more of it

The name usually opens the chorus, so it returns every time the chorus does. Want it in the closing line as well? Say so in your story, or ask for it in an edit.

By the age they're turning

Happy birthday songs with name, picked for every age

A first birthday and an eightieth call for very different songs. Here is where we would start, and what to put in the story so the name lands well.

  • A one-year-old girl in a high chair with frosting on her fingers looks up delighted at her mother, who leans in clapping at her first birthday (AI photo, fictional people)

    Turning 1: First birthday

    Try
    • Ballad
    • Calm
    • Female voice

The nickname you use at bath time, the first word, who is singing to her. It becomes the song you replay at every birthday after.

  • An eight-year-old boy in a paper crown jumps with both arms up at his birthday party while his little sister and the dog bounce beside him (AI photo, fictional people)

    Turning 8: Kid birthdays

    Try
    • Pop
    • Happy
    • Duet

This year's obsession: dinosaurs, a soccer team, the dog. Kids go wild hearing their own name, and wilder hearing the dog's.

  • A sixteen-year-old girl on her bed with three friends, all of them screaming and laughing, her hands over her mouth (AI photo, fictional people)

    Turning 16: Sweet sixteen

    Try
    • Pop
    • Danceable
    • Female voice

The best friend, the driving test, the joke from the group chat. Upbeat enough that her friends scream the name along.

  • A man turning thirty laughs with his head back in a bar booth while his friends sing and point at him (AI photo, fictional people)

Turning 30: Thirty and other milestones

    Try
    • Indie
    • Festive
    • Male voice

Roast them, gently: the terrible puns, the road trip that went sideways. Maya's song above started exactly like this.

  • A woman turning fifty presses a hand to her chest at a candlelit dinner while her husband plays her a song on his phone (AI photo, fictional people)

Turning 50: Fifty, from a partner

    Try
    • Country
    • Nostalgic
    • Male voice

How you met, the first apartment, what you would tell them at twenty-five. Slow enough that the table goes quiet when the name comes.

  • A grandfather in a paper party hat laughs as two grandchildren lean on his shoulders at his eightieth birthday lunch (AI photo, fictional people)

    Turning 80: Eighty and beyond

    Try
    • Jazz
    • Nostalgic
    • Duet

The town they grew up in, the dance hall, every grandchild by name. Say who it is from: the whole family can sign it.

The second the chorus hit

Birthday people, hearing their own name

  • A one-year-old girl in a high chair claps and squeals at a phone playing music while her father laughs beside her (AI photo, fictional people)
    1st birthday
We played it before the cake. Sofia barely has words yet, but every time the chorus got to her name she clapped like she wrote it herself.
    Hannah and Luis M.Tucson, AZ
  • Seven-year-old twins, a boy and a girl in party hats, dance on a living room rug and point at a speaker while shouting along (AI photo, fictional people)
    Twins' 7th birthday
My worry was fitting both names into one chorus. Theo and Ivy each got a line, and now they argue about whose line comes first.
    Rachel D.Raleigh, NC
  • A sixteen-year-old girl hugs her mother tightly at her sweet sixteen, laughing with wet eyes, while friends cheer behind them (AI photo, fictional people)
    Sweet sixteen
Her friends knew the chorus by the second play and yelled Kayla every single time. She acted embarrassed for about four seconds.
    Monique J.Atlanta, GA
  • A man in his late twenties laughs in disbelief in his kitchen, one hand on his forehead, holding out his phone (AI photo, fictional person)
    Birthday, long distance
My brother lives five time zones away. I texted the gift link at 7 a.m. his time and had a voice note of him laughing before my coffee was done.
    Ana P.Sent from Lisbon
  • A man turning forty covers his face and laughs at a restaurant table while friends cheer and his wife holds up a phone (AI photo, fictional people)
    40th birthday
We played it at the restaurant. When the chorus called out Marcus, our whole table sang it back and the couple next to us clapped.
    Jess W.Kansas City, MO
  • A young woman with red hair throws her head back laughing at her birthday dinner while friends around the table clap (AI photo, fictional people)
    25th birthday
My roommate Siobhan has heard her name mangled her whole life. I typed shi-VAWN in parentheses and the singer nailed it. She made me play it three times.
    Ciara O.Boston, MA
  • A man turning sixty wipes his eyes and smiles at a backyard barbecue while his three adult children stand around him (AI photo, fictional people)
    60th birthday
Three of us wrote the story together over text. Dad heard Big Mike sung over a guitar and had to sit down next to the grill.
    Daniel O.Houston, TX
  • A ninety-year-old woman in a cardigan claps and sings in an armchair while her great-granddaughter holds a small speaker beside her (AI photo, fictional people)
    90th birthday
Great-Grandma Rose was singing her own name by the last chorus. It ran under the party slideshow and nobody made it through dry-eyed.

Birthday is today?

There is still time for their song

Most people do the whole thing on a phone in well under an hour. This is how the time usually goes.

  1. About 10 min

Step 1: Type the name, add a story

Their name as it is said out loud, who it is from, the style, and two or three true details. Adding a pronunciation hint takes five seconds.

  2. 2–3 min later

Step 2: Hear two full versions

Both play with a light preview watermark. Listen for the name first, then for everything else. Nothing has been charged.

  3. Only if needed

Step 3: Fix a line, or the name

Change a word, the mood or the voice, and two fresh takes come back. You will see how many edit rounds you have left.

  4. Right after paying

Step 4: Send it however you like

Paste the private gift link into a text or WhatsApp, attach the MP3, play it at the party, or schedule the gift email for their morning.

FAQ

Questions about birthday songs with a name

Usually asked the night before, or on the morning itself.

Is it the classic Happy Birthday tune with the name swapped in?

No. We write an original song, with its own melody and new lyrics built from your story, not the familiar tune with a name dropped into the gap. The chorus can still say happy birthday, as Maya's does, with the name right beside it.

Will the singer pronounce the name correctly?

Most names are sung right the first time. For anything unusual, add how it sounds in parentheses, like Siobhan (shi-VAWN). We can't promise every rare name lands on the first take, so listen to both versions before paying; if it is off, edit and two new versions come back.

Can one song include two or more names?

Yes. Twins, siblings, a couple or a whole family can share one song. Put the names in the name field, then explain in your story who is who, so each person gets a moment.

Can it use a nickname instead of the full name?

Use whatever they are really called. If you want both, like Bex in the chorus and Rebecca in the final line, say so in your story.

How many times will the name be sung?

It depends on the song. The name usually opens the chorus, which repeats, so it comes back several times: four in Maya's song. If you want more, ask in your story or in an edit before paying.

It's their birthday today. How fast can I have it?

Two versions are usually ready two or three minutes after you send the story, and the downloads unlock the moment you pay. You can also schedule the gift email for later today or for tomorrow morning.

How do I send it by text or WhatsApp?

After paying you get a private gift link to paste into any chat, plus the MP3 and a lyric video (MP4) you can attach directly. There is a QR code as well, for a printed card.

Can the birthday song be in Spanish, Portuguese or Italian?

Yes. Choose the song language when you pick the style: English, Spanish, Portuguese or Italian. Names from any language work; add a pronunciation hint if the spelling could be read two ways.
