The sticker you're missing

None of these thirty says his name or remembers the window you two broke playing catch. His does: it's written from your stories and can sound like country, rock or a ballad.

Before you hit play

What to say to your brother before it plays

Between brothers, the heartfelt part goes down easier with a joke first. Four original ideas for the text or to say out loud; swap in your names and your stories.

  • On the backFor his birthday
Happy birthday, Jake. Thirty-five, and you still haven't given back the top bunk. This one's for you: listen all the way to the end, that's where I get serious.

Why it works: It opens with the old joke and leaves the sincere part to the song.

  • On the backFor the toast at his wedding
I had your back in school, on the field and through every move. Today I'm handing the job to Megan. Still, if you need me at 3 a.m., you know my number.

Why it works: One shared story, a nod to the bride and a promise that still stands.

  • On the backFor when he moves away
You're leaving with two suitcases and taking half the neighborhood with you. When you miss Sunday dinner at Mom's, play this song: it's the closest thing to home.

Why it works: It doesn't ask him to stay: it puts a little piece of home in his pocket.

  • On the backTo say thank you
I never say it, so I'll say it once: thanks for stepping in front of me every time it counted. This song says what I can't get out.

Why it works: Short, no greeting-card words, and it lets the song do the talking.

His own song

A song that could only be your brother's

If none of the songs about brothers says what you mean, tell us about him: his name, his nickname and that childhood story that comes up at every family get-together. Here's how the order fills in, with the real options from the form.

What your order looks like

Your relationship
  • Sibling
  • Other

Is it for your sister? Same option. For a cousin or a brother-in-law, pick Other.

Occasion
  • Birthday
  • Wedding
  • Thank you
  • Friendship
  • Just because

Pick the one that fits; if you just want to tell him something, Just because.

  • Country
  • Rock
  • Pop
  • R&B
  • Ballad

Five of the form's genres that work between brothers; the lyrics adapt to whichever you pick.

  • Nostalgic
  • Danceable

What only you know about him

  1. His name and nickname

What he's called and what the family calls him, even if he hates it. If it's pronounced differently from how it's spelled, say so.

  2. The story that always comes up

The one that gets told at every cookout: the broken window, Dad's truck, the road trip where you got lost. One detail is enough.

  3. What you never told him

Thank you, I'm sorry, I miss you or I'm proud of you. One sentence, and the song takes care of the rest.

Example story (made up)

My brother Jake turns 35 on August 9; at home we call him Jakey. We shared a room until he left for college and fought over the top bunk every night. Once we put a baseball through the neighbor's window and he told them it was just him. I want to thank him for that and for everything after. Country, happy, male voice.

Listen first

This is what a song made here sounds like

We don't have a brothers' song to play you yet, so here's the honest version: these two were ordered for other people. They're here so you can hear how a story turns into verses and the exact moment a name comes in. Your brother's can be country, rock or anything else on the form.

Two real songs

Neither one is for a brother: one is an anniversary song, the other is for a friend's 30th.

  • Ordinary Days

Written for Emma, for their tenth wedding anniversary; a gift from Daniel, her husband

    • Ballad
    • Female voice
    Ordinary Days
    Ballad
  • Celebrate You, Maya

Written for Maya, turning 30; a gift from a close friend

    • Pop
    • Male voice
    Maya's song
    Pop

Every name you hear was put in the story by the person who ordered the song. The one for your brother will have his.

After they hit play

They already gave their brother a song

Brothers, sisters and one cousin who's basically a brother. Some played at a cookout, some at a wedding and one at the gate.

  • A man holds his phone to his older brother's ear; the brother, in an apron and holding grill tongs, covers his mouth laughing on a patio with the grill going (AI photo, fictional people)
    His big brother's 40th
I played it at his 40th, phone pressed to his ear because the backyard was so loud. He covered his mouth and called me a traitor. Then he asked for it three more times.
    Mike G.San Antonio, TX
  • For his kid brother
My little brother finished nursing school and I had no idea what to get him. I told the story of riding him to school on my handlebars. He sent one voice memo crying and another laughing.
    Chris P.Columbus, OH
  • Two adult brothers share a long goodbye hug in an airport terminal, one with a travel backpack and a suitcase beside him (AI photo, fictional people)
    Before he moved to Seattle
My brother was moving to Seattle for a job. I texted him the link when he was already at the gate. He wrote back that he missed everything, even my bad jokes.
    Ryan K.Chicago, IL
  • For a cousin who's a brother
My cousin and I grew up in the same house, so I picked Other and explained it in the story. The song calls us brothers by choice. He made it his ringtone.
    Marcus J.Atlanta, GA
  • At a wedding reception, the older brother raises his glass in a toast with a hand on the groom's shoulder, while the groom covers his face, laughing through tears (AI photo, fictional people)
    Toast at his wedding
At my brother's wedding, instead of reading a speech, I raised my glass and played his song. He was laughing and crying at the same time. Mom says it was the best part of the night.
    Tyler B.Nashville, TN
  • From three sisters to their brother
It's three of us girls and one brother, and we ordered it together. We put in our nicknames and the time we locked him in the bathroom. He says we did it to make him cry.
    Jessica M.Phoenix, AZ
  • A woman on the couch plays a song on her phone for her younger brother, who laughs while hiding half his face behind a pillow; on the coffee table, a mate gourd and a thermos (AI photo, fictional people)
    Just a random Sunday
It wasn't his birthday or anything. I played it on the couch one Sunday and he hid behind a pillow. He says it's the most embarrassing moment of his life, and it's in his favorites.
    Lauren D.Miami, FL
  • Twins' birthday
My twin and I share a birthday. I gave him a song and he gave me one, without either of us planning it. Now we play them back to back.

Questions

What brothers ask before they give it

Short answers. If you still have a question, write to us.

Can a song for my brother include his nickname?

Yes. The lyrics are written from what you tell us, so his name can go in, the nickname he got as a kid and even the one he can't stand. If it's pronounced differently from how it's spelled, add it in parentheses.

Can several siblings give it together?

Yes, it's one song from all of you. Put each person's name in the story with a memory of their own and the lyrics can mention them. After you pay, share the gift page link in the family group chat.

Will it be ready in time for his birthday?

Yes, even if his birthday is today. The lyrics take about a minute and the two full versions a minute or two more. Paying unlocks the files, and if you want him to get it at an exact time, schedule the gift email.

Personalized birthday song

Does it work for his wedding?

Yes. Choose the Wedding occasion and say in the story that it's from you, his brother or sister. After you pay, download the MP3 for the DJ and the vertical lyric video. We can't guarantee an exact length: if the toast needs a shorter cut, ask the DJ.

What if he lives in another state or country?

Even better. There's nothing to mail: send him the link to the private gift page, with its QR code, or schedule the gift email to arrive at the time you choose. He opens it on his phone, wherever he is.

What language is the song in?

You choose: English, Spanish, Portuguese or Italian. Each song is written in one language, so if your family switches to Spanish at the dinner table, that works too. The two samples on this page are in English.

Can I change it before I pay?

Yes, within a limited number of rounds: change the lyrics, genre or mood, generate again, and the page shows how many rounds you have left. Once you pay, the song can't be changed, and there are no refunds after payment except for a duplicate charge or if we can't deliver it.

Who sings it?

You choose Male voice, Female voice or Duet. They're all synthetic voices: we don't imitate real singers or clone voices, not even your brother's favorite band.
