From the day you met to today

A custom song for anniversary day, written from your dates

The day you met, the first trip, the first key, the hard year, an ordinary Saturday. We turn the dates you pick into verses and a chorus with their name in it, for a first month or a fortieth year.

  • Your dates in the verses
  • Two versions before you pay
  • From $34.99

The timeline method

How a custom anniversary song is built from your timeline

Most anniversary songs are about love in general. Yours can be about six dates. Pick three to five, write one specific thing for each, and the verses are there before anyone thinks about rhymes.

  1. Day one

    The day you met

Ask yourselfWhere were you standing, and what was the first thing either of you said?

    Theo wrote

The laundromat on Fifth. She folded my shirt by mistake and handed it back like it was hers.

  2. First trip

    The first trip together

Ask yourselfWhat went wrong, and what do you two still laugh about?

    Theo wrote

Montreal in February. Two coats each and one scarf between us.

  3. First key

    The first shared address

Ask yourselfWhich room or object still means the two of you?

    Theo wrote

A fourth-floor walk-up and a couch that never made it past the hallway.

  4. The yes

    The proposal or the promise

Ask yourselfSkip the ring. What did they say in the minute after?

    Theo wrote

She said yes, then asked if we could still go for tacos.

  5. The hard year

    The year you got through

Ask yourselfName it gently. What did they do that you'll never forget?

    Theo wrote

The winter I lost my job, she wrote our budget on a napkin and called it a plan.

  6. Today

    An ordinary week now

Ask yourselfWhat happens every week that you would miss the most?

    Theo wrote

Saturday pancakes. Her cold feet on my calves.

Still dating? Swap the yes for the first "I love you" and the first key for the first toothbrush at their place.

Example

Five dates, one song

The verses walk through the past in order. The chorus is today, with her name in it.

Theo's five dates

  • Day one
  • First key
  • Today
  • The hard year
  • The yes

Got your dates? That's the hard part done.

Type them into the form the way you'd tell a friend. Lyrics arrive in about a minute, then two full versions with their name sung in the chorus.

Every kind of anniversary

What to write for the anniversary you're at

Writing tips, not a playlist. Custom anniversary songs work for a first month and a fortieth year; the occasion on the form is Anniversary for all of them, and the story and the mood do the rest.

What happened when they pressed play

  • A young woman with a black bob hides half her face against her boyfriend's shoulder, laughing, on the back seat of an evening tram while he holds a phone and grins down at her (AI photo, fictional people)One year together
Our first anniversary, on the tram home from dinner. I put in the night we got off at the wrong stop. She hid in my scarf for the whole chorus.
    Luke T.Pittsburgh, PA
  • Six months
Six months felt early for a song, so I kept it funny: the burnt pizza, his parking, the dog he keeps promising me. He asked to hear it three more times.
    Ines R.San Diego, CA
  • An older man in a blue linen shirt wipes his eye and laughs at a garden table at golden hour while his wife in a red cardigan holds a phone toward him with a hand on his arm (AI photo, fictional people)Parents' 25th
Mom and Dad's silver anniversary. We put in the two cities and the house with the lemon tree. Dad said it was the sun in his eyes. It was not.
    Arun M.Edison, NJ
  • First-date day
We celebrate our first date, not the day we got official. The song starts at the bowling alley where I lost on purpose. He knows now.
    Brooke A.Columbus, OH
  • A woman in a red rain jacket holds a phone to her wife's ear on a windy ferry deck while her wife, in a cream sweater, covers her mouth with both hands and laughs through tears (AI photo, fictional people)Fifth anniversary
Five years married, on the ferry where I proposed. I held the phone to Fiona's ear and she covered her face before the first chorus ended.
    Dani O.Seattle, WA
  • 40th anniversary
Forty years. I'm no poet, so I gave it the dates: the dance hall, the Army years, three houses. My wife calls it the best thing I ever wrote. I didn't write it.
    Robert H.Tucson, AZ
  • A young man in a blue cardigan laughs with his eyes shut, holding a fork, beside a small white cake on a coffee table while his wife in a red sweatshirt holds up a phone and laughs at him (AI photo, fictional people)First wedding anniversary
We thawed the top tier of our wedding cake like you're supposed to. The bridge was about our vows. Mateo laughed so hard he nearly lost his fork.
    Carly R.Albuquerque, NM
  • Tenth anniversary
Ten years in, I scheduled the email for 6 a.m. so it beat her alarm. She woke me up to listen again, which was the plan all along.

Questions

Before you write your anniversary song

Straight answers about timing, voices and changes.

Our anniversary is tomorrow. Is there still time?

Yes. Lyrics take about a minute and two full versions follow a minute or two later. Everything unlocks as soon as you pay, so tonight is enough.

Can the song cover many years, not just one moment?

Yes, that's what the timeline is for. Give us three to five moments in order and the verses walk through them, whether it's two years or forty, with the chorus saved for now.

Can it use our places, our nicknames or a line from our song?

Places, nicknames, dates and stories, yes. We can't quote lyrics from an existing song, even the one from your first dance, and we can't imitate a real artist; the memory of dancing to it can still go in.

Can it be a duet, as if it's from both of us?

Yes. Choose Duet and two voices trade lines; write the story as "we" and it sounds like it comes from you both. Female voice and Male voice are the other choices, and all voices are synthetic.

Can it arrive on the morning of our anniversary?

Yes. After you pay, schedule the gift email for the day and time you want, say 7 a.m. It opens their private gift page with the song, your photos and your note.

Can our anniversary song be in Spanish, Portuguese or Italian?

Yes. Choose English, Spanish, Portuguese or Italian as the song language, so it can be in the language you two speak at home.

Can we change it before paying?

Yes, within limits. Edit the lyrics, style or mood and generate again; the page shows how many rounds you have left. Once you pay, the song itself is final and our rights in it transfer to you.

Where can I find existing songs for each anniversary year?

If you'd rather play a classic, our anniversary songs page has picks for the 1st, 5th, 10th, 25th and 50th years. This page is about the one song that exists only for the two of you.
